In elementary school he would torment the teacher and play tricks on his classmates. One of the tricks he would do is that two of his classmates would be talking to each other and then he would come up and scare them off. He played hooky when he thought the school should have a holiday, but the teacher didn't agree with him.
He tried to pass collage, but he was expelled for complaining that the school was too cold and didn't have enough food.
Later the South Carolina government allowed him to study law. He passed the bar exam. Then he was a lawyer.
In one case James threatened to tweak the judge's nose. He threatened to tweak the judge's nose because, another attorney said something mean too the widow he was representing, so he wanted the judge to make him apologize, but he found out that the judge had a grudge against her.
He liked a girl named Caroline, but unfortunately he never married. He never married her because the librarian married her.
Soon after William B. Travis (His childhood buddy) wrote a note saying for him too come to Texas.
While Bonham was in Texas he was Colonel of the Artellery Corps. He was very proud of his place in the army.

One time on his trips to find new soldiers he went to Goliad too get help from Colonel Fannin. He asked him if he could have some reinforcements from him. Fannin said yes, but when his troops just got out of Goliad his wagons broke. While the wagons were in repairs the oxen that were pulling the wagons wandered away, so Fannin's troops were not going to go.
While Bonham was riding back to the Alamo he found the Alamo surrounded by Mexican troops. instead of running away he joined the surrounded troops in the Alamo.
Then that was when the battle of the Alamo broke out and many people died including James B. Bonham. He died in 1836. It was a very sad moment for all of the Texans.
